2026 Annual Meeting » Results

Here’s what happened at our Annual Meeting April 18, 2026, the nitty gritty detail version:

Welcome!

THANKS!

Huge thanks to Chris, who manages the ‘boring’ details of running RMCC, and to all who steward the space through the winter (plowing, step shoveling, impromptu sweeping), to all who did a big spring clean in early April to get the space ready to be open for the season. We’re grateful to several small groups of folks who are heading up our ‘fixit’ projects for the year (and will call for help when needed). Huge thanks to the folks who do the ‘quiet tasks’ like washing tablecloths and replacing the batteries in the clocks. Thanks to the many hands that have/are stepping up to make the load lighter for all.

ELECTIONS

Elections for officers was held with Sophie, Sarah and Chris reelected

FINANCES

RMCC membership is steady and maybe slightly up. Membership contributions seems to more or less cover our basic operating expenses (utilities, plowing, miscellaneous small fixes). We are consistently running in the red each year due to building fixup projects. Current savings from past larger one time donations is covering these projects, but going forward we are discussing creative possibilities for fundraising. Some great ideas were pitched at the meeting including community yard sales, and an auction for activities, experiences, and services. More on those events coming! Donations always welcome!

2026 Projects

Projects include:

Fix and strengthen the fence above the bank down to Rt. 132 (Satchel, Chip, and Max are working on it, with creative input from Sophie. Sign up to be part of this install crew)

Move Propane Heater and Tank (Bob and Rick have got it!)

Install and pipe rainwater to an outdoor handwashing sink (Zach is heading up a crew that you could be on! We’re also looking for a free sink!)

Refinish/paint blackboard (Jackie got volunteered, thank you, Jackie)

Eradicate invasives on site (Our ‘project regulars’ are working on it but you can sign up to be part of this crew if you’re passionate about invasive removal or fun outdoor hangouts!)

Improve outhouse cleanout (Poop team is working on this?)

Curate books in bookshelf and files in filing cabinet (Emily Zollo, resident librarians’ on it)

Anyone wishing to help with any of these projects should contact Sophie/Sarah/Chris at info@ricesmills.org

We discussed upcoming events, ideas for events we’d like to see in the space (A Moth story hour, the return of Cafe 132, a night of Thetford SNL, a night for education on ballot items in November, watching the World Cup together, Halloween costumes, a Pecha Kucha night, and more!). Beloved events like the singalong and community slideshow will be back, along with requested activities like a game night, a dye class, and more zucchini people!
